Well let's get a few facts straight right away. There are no short cuts or miracles in a bottle for this repair. THE ENGINE HAS TO BE REMOVED AND BROKEN DOWN! We did not reinvent the wheel when we developed our repair system. We tested the TIMESERT, BIG SERT, NSL 300 (Norm Sert), and SUREGRIP STUD KIT. Inserts have been around for a long time and they are nothing more than suped up heli-coils. We concluded that the Northstar engine has too much power for the insert repair systems. They really are not a lifetime repair. If inserts are installed and the head gaskets are ever replaced again for routine maintenance, the inserts oftentimes come out with the head bolts. More like 90% of the time. So they really are a one-time repair option. That is, if they don't fail immediatedly. Now living here in L.A. all street racers know that if you want longevity in conjunction with speed, studs are the way to go. Studs have been around far longer than inserts. From professional racing teams to the local street racers, it is a known fact that studs out perform bolts most times. I can confidently say that all of these repair options work. And there are pros and cons to all of them. The Northstar is not a racing engine but a cruising/touring engine. The power is race car like therefore the setup is justified.
In order for us to develop the best repair system on the market we had a few things we wanted to accomplish. First, we wanted an affordable lifetime repair option that we could guarantee. We did not set our price, the market did. The head gasket issue has grossly de-valued our wonderful CADILLAC brand. Now who is going to pay $6k - $10k to repair a car the market says has virtually no value. Secondly, we wanted our repair system to meet GM's repair specs. To install our system we wanted to insure that we did not lose any of the engine block's original strength. We also wanted to incorporate the strengths of all the other repair systems. So we engineered the Superstar Stud System based on the above premises. We install the state of the art Superstar Stud System in your northstar engine. The Superstar Stud System is in a class all by itself because very little of the engine is drilled out to install it, thus maintaining the original design strength of your engine block. Other repair systems leave behind considerable engine shavings, making your engine block susceptible to cracking because of the thinned walls of the block. The Superstar Stud System meets all GM outlined repair specs and the installation process guarantees precision. This is an actual picture of a recent installation not a cromed up "for show" engine block. In the Northstar engine the head gasket failure is normally due to the engine bolts pulling up. Head bolts have to deal with 3 forces, which are, a twisting force, a stretching force, and a combination of both forces. Studs are the best option for such a powerful engine. Studs are installed and secure the head at a relaxed state, meaning they could be hand tightened and still work. All the force is on the fastener/nut alone. Now think about this, which will hold better....steel to aluminum or steel to steel? So the biggest thing that our stud system does is displace the clamping/bolting force from the engine block to the nut/fastener at the top of the stud.
